Looking for a neat little crossover SUV that offers everything a growing family needs can be a headache. But like cream rising to the top, the 2018 Ford Escape emerges as one of the best choices. With a choice of 3 upgraded engines, expanded cargo room and an entertainment system, the Escape is the mid-size SUV standard bearer.
INTERIOR & EXTERIOR
The 2018 Ford Escape has titanium trim, three-row flex seating and six-way manual front seating. The base 2.5 liter turbo engine delivers 21/29 mpg. The six-speed automatic goes from zero to sixty in 9.2 seconds. Ford cars are known for fun and neutral handling. There are many visible changes like the lights and grill. The bumpers are slightly larger, with new colors and the overall look is more attractive. A healthy amount of cargo space also makes this truck a winner. There is 34 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats when up and 68 when folded down.
Upgraded safety features are the standard on the Ford cars. It received the highest five-star rating from the NHTSA. The SUV is outfitted with the Ford Safe and Smart package that consists of rear view alarms and parking cameras. Forward collision warning, brake assist and blind spot monitoring are also new. The power lift gate opens the rear with a touch of a button. The standard package has leather interior and premium accessories. Leg room in the front and back is more than ample for all passengers.
FEATURES & FINAL THOUGHTS
New technology features the Sync infotainment system. The 4.2-inch screen is equipped with voice recognition. There is also an optional Sync 3 system with an 8-inch screen. Additionally, the Ford has a six-speaker audio system, WiFi hot spot, Sirius XM Satellite Radio and Apple CarPlay. While the SUV has a few shortcomings, like slow engine acceleration, tight back seats and less than impressive gas mileage, the pluses cannot be overstated.
The price tag of the standard model runs about $24,000, that can go up to $29,000 with all the bells and whistles. The new model Ford Escape will be released in early 2018. See our full list of 2018 Ford reviews here.
